Aidan is obsessed with the story of David and Goliath. So much for keeping him from violence and death! HA!! The other day I was at the sink and he was at the kitchen bar coloring and he says to me out of nowhere…

“When someone is nasty to me I’m gonna throw a rock at their head!”

I calmly asked, “Why?” And then realized that he was wanting to be like Shepard boy/King David who I always tell him obeyed and served God. I always say “he was God’s little boy just like Aidan is God’s little boy.”
“Oh great” I thought, “How in the world do you explain to a 3 year old that while it was “OK” for David to slingshot Goliath down that the house rule still applies,
“We don’t throw rocks.”

Ah, motherhood.

Unfortunately, the Bible is full of nastiness and violence. Those things are reality, then and now. It is really hard to explain such things to kids. And it only gets tougher the older they are and the more things they are exposed to. I wish I could just lock them in a room and keep them from all of it but we just have to pray for the right words and the right timing in helping our children to understand what an evil world we live in and why we need God so very much.
