My Oil of the Week – Bug Repellent Blend

Jun 9, 2015 | Essential Oils by dōTERRA | 2 comments

Summer is here.

I think?

(It was 39 degrees here overnight last week and my basil took a beating!)

But around here  summer means bugs.

And lots of them.

Ants galor, spiders, mosquitos and everyone’s worst fear… ticks.  After finding a tick in Juliette’s ear last year I have learned a lot about these dreading, disgusting things.  They come from the SCORPION family!

YUCK!!!

Every year I look for some sort of “natural repellent” to keep us happy and itch free and I’ve tried them all…  bottles from the health food store (containing sodium lauryl sulfate), toxic dryer sheets… you name it.

Until now.

I should have known essential oils would have the answer!

We love this bug repellent blend.  And we are burning thru it here on the farm!

Bugs that this repels:

  • Ant
  • Aphids
  • Beetles
  • Caterpillars
  • Cutworm
  • Chiggers
  • Fleas
  • Flies
  • Gnats
  • Mosquitos
  • Moths
  • Plant Lice
  • Roaches
  • Slugs
  • Snails
  • Spiders
  • Ticks
  • Weevils

We spray a mixture of it and water to spray along baseboards to keep the ants away, we use that same mixture to keep the mosquitos and ticks away and this week I’ll be posting in my Potager series on how I use it in the garden to destroy garden bugs!!!

This repellenet blend has a combination of the essential oils Skimmia LaureolaCatnip PlantAmyris BarkAfrican SandalwoodCabrueva BalsamWild Orange PeelWhite Fir NeedleCedarwoodCitronella HerbEucalyptus Leaf/StemHawaiian SandalwoodGenet Absolute, and Rose Flower essential oils in a base of fractionated coconut oil.

That’s it.  No SLS’s… no chemicals… just a LOVELY  smelling bug spray that won’t pour toxins into your children’s blood.

Yes.  That is right.  It smells LOVELY.

Did I mention we use it on our farm animals too?

Finally a bug spray I can feel good about as a Momma!

Who could use a little natural bug repellent?  I know mine is almost gone!  Time to order more!

Got questions?  I’m here to help!

Now – back to those weeds!
