Following Through On A Dream.

Nov 18, 2011 | From France to the Farm | 31 comments

A hundred times in the last week I have gone to sweep the bread crumbs out the back door and no one has been there to greet me.
No warble, no cackle, no pecking at the screen…

The eggs in my fridge are store bought.
They are not blue.

Many tears were shed by all of us as we loaded our girls…
The City Chicks…
The Hens Austen…
In the Suburban and drove them fifteen minutes down the road.

To the country.

Juliette keeps going to the back door too…
wanting to see her “ladies.”

We were rearing to fight. Ready to appeal. To give ’em hell.
Plans to invite the Mayor over for lunch.
Plans to give a coop tour.

Thoughts of retaliation.
Fantasies of kicking my neighbors door in! (Insert evil laughter!)
I thought about getting a legal potbellied pig (To see if my neighbors would like THAT smell!)
Then, I contemplated a GIANT sheep dog. (Not my style).

Then Joel and I sat down and considered the energy all of that would take for me.
All the emotional energy.
And we decided it’s time to follow thru on a dream instead.

Guess what?

There’s a for sale sign in my front yard.

She needs wide open spaces,
new places…”

the country–the place to raise kids!
I hope you can find a house as pretty as yours. If not I am sure you can turn it into one. Cheers to having all the damn chickens you want. Good luck to you!

You will be the perfect fermière! (but with city chic and élégance)
Your children are the lucky ones. They will have a wonderful life – you all will!

Now that my dear is the best revenge of all!! Take down the chandeliers, roll up the rugs, and move on.

We can only hope that the next homeowners will forget to water the lawn as they will be too preoccupied with their knife throwing games, enjoying loud rap music with their numerous and noisy friends and family members gathered in the front yard. At which point the sniveling neighbors who thought chickens were bad will think “Oh dear if only that lovely, well mannered family still lived here, all they wanted were a few chickens. I wish these people would leave!”

But, alas, the pontiac is up on jack stands and the tires have been removed and sold for more beer. Sigh.

    I agree!
People have nothing better to do but be annoying!
Must be all of the store food chemicals running through their veins!
    Crazy I tell you! 🙂
I hate to think this but Karma is a booger and they may just get some awful new neighbors while you enjoy stretching your wings in your wide open new space!
    Blessings on this new adventure!

I only wish that I had the Parisienne Farm Girl, her dear husband, and some of the sweetest faces that I’ve ever seen living next door to me.

I would also most likely wish that you would share some of your poop from the coop for our garden. Your neighbors have missed the boat!

    Good for you!

I would gladly trade your chickens for some of the rude and nasty neighbors we have! I hope you find a lovely home and are able to have your chickens and enjoy fresh eggs again soon. I would love to have you and your family as a neighbor, along with your chickens!
