The “Chanel” Find Revealed…

So, no.
I am sorry to say I didn’t find a REAL Chanel dress yesterday while out garage saleing.
That’s just not going to happen around here… perhaps the occasional sun-yellowed bottle of No. 5 but never a Chanel frock…
Alors…

I found myself so inspired (once again by a post of A-la-Parisienne’s) about “From me to You” especially when I read that most of the clothing featured was from Thrift Stores.
I LOVE combining vintage and thrift store clothing with new…I have been doing so since I was twelve years old.
And so, I could not resist this little black number I found at a garage sale for THREE DOLLARS… (I paid TWO!).  The black lace (over a nude slip), the accordion pleats and the sort of drop waist made me think it could make a fun little Chanel inspired dress by adding hoards of opera length pearls and perhaps a little black rosette up by the strap (I couldn’t find mine for the photo).
I put it on “L’ autre moi” and was stunned to remember what I look like in “real life”.  You never feel thin until you are pregnant and look back on photo or dress form sized to your regular size.  It’s like when you thought you were “fat” in high school and you look back thinking “Oh good grief, why wasn’t I appreciative???”.
There is no real quality to the dress but it sure reminded me of Madmoiselle!
Wonder what I’ll find next weekend?
Real Chanel.
Real Chanel.
My faux Chanel…

Never underestimate a tag sale…
On ne jamais sais!

  1. Angela,

LOVE your new dress and oui, très Coco Chanel mademoiselle!
I went yardsaling {is that a verb?}today and found a beautiful boutique flower girl dress for Amelia for two bucks…not too sure where she’ll wear it, but I can’t even buy a brownie mix for two dollars;)

Don’t fret about “l’autre toi,” you’ll be wearing that new dress before you know it!

  2. I’m with Stephanie, I think it looks even prettier than the real thing!

And I know exactly what you mean about size. I keep telling myself that pretty things will fit again. I may not look pregnant to most, but my tighter dresses can’t be put on. Joy. I just try and remember that I was planning to drop weight before, so these dresses that are annoying me for not fitting were in the plan to not fit anyway!

  3. Long time lurker, first time commenter, but my sister found a black boucle Chanel suit for $12 at a Goodwill about ten years ago. When she excitedly told my grandmother what she had found (my very country grandmother who lived deep in Appalachia), my granny responded, “Well, what on earth do you want a suit made of chenille for?” I guess she was envisioning a 1950s bedspread!

  4. I think Chanel is a state-of-mind which affects one’s posture, walk, and all of one’s non-verbals. These Chanel non-verbals seem to transform our toilet, whether it’s haute couture or Saturday morning fea market find, into something stunning. Angela, all you have to do is add a bit of a smile and you could turn rummage sale goods into Chanel.

  5. Angela I think it is beautiful, no one would ever know where you found this beauty!

    xoxo
